Post by BlueSkyCabo »

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report – September 29, 2026 – Marlin & Sailfish Released

September 29, 2026 – 1 Marlin Released, 1 Sailfish Released

Two species of billfish, two successful releases and productive water only about two miles off Whale's Head produced a strong six-hour Cabo charter aboard the 35' Riviera Blue Water.

Charter Statistics

Boat: 35' Riviera Blue Water | Captain: Oscar | Anglers: 3
Charter: 6 Hours | Departure: 7:30 AM | Return: 1:30 PM
Billfish: 2 | Marlin: 1 Released | Sailfish: 1 Released
Release Rate: 100% | Species: 2 | Average: 1 Billfish / 3 Hours
Area: Whale's Head | Distance Offshore: ~2 Miles | Technique: Trolling
Dredge: Yes | Water: ~87.8°F | Air: ~83–86°F
Wind: ~11–12 mph | Fishing Window: 6 Hours | Boat Length: 35'

Captain Oscar departed Cabo San Lucas at 7:30 AM with three anglers aboard Blue Water. The numbers quickly became interesting because this was not a charter requiring a long run to distant offshore banks.

The productive zone was approximately two miles off Whale's Head.

With a six-hour fishing window, staying relatively close to Cabo meant more time could be dedicated to working productive water. The trolling program incorporated a dredge to increase the underwater profile of the spread and simulate a concentrated group of baitfish.

The results came from two different billfish species.

One marlin was hooked and successfully released. A sailfish provided the second major encounter and was also released, giving the charter a 2-for-2 billfish release record.

Cabo Fishing Numbers

The final efficiency rate worked out to one billfish per three charter hours, with two billfish species encountered by three anglers.

Water temperature was approximately 87.8°F, while air temperatures during the charter period were roughly 83–86°F. Winds were around 11–12 mph.

The most significant statistic may have been distance. At approximately two miles offshore, Blue Water recorded both a marlin and sailfish without making an extended offshore run.

For a six-hour Cabo charter, that creates an efficient fishing scenario: shorter travel, more time working the spread and more opportunity to stay around active fish.

The September 29 scorecard finished with 6 hours of fishing, 3 anglers, 2 billfish, 2 species, 2 successful releases and a 100% billfish release rate.

Final Statistics: 35' Riviera | 6 Hours | 3 Anglers | 2 Billfish | 1 Marlin | 1 Sailfish | 2 Releases | 100% Released | ~2 Miles Offshore
