A couple weekends of local fishing with the bro..

Have been fishing a ton the last couple of weeks since my last update. My brother is in town from Toronto and we hadn’t fished together in 20+ years, so we are getting after it every chance we get.

Most of our time has been spent on shore at my favorite local body of water. We made a visit to the Canals out in the IV one day, hit Hodges for another as well.

Let’s just say it’s been a great trip so far. Memories made getting to fish with my brother have been really awesome and we have had some killer days. The summer is turning out to be more fun than spring was so far!

Our least successful outing of the trip still yielded 3 bass a piece, which one year ago I thought was a great day lol.

We’ve had luck throwing reaction baits (you can figure out from the pics what my go to is lol) and bottom contact stuff. My brother is catching a ton of fish on bottom contact finesse using a technique that’s popular in the north that he prefers over the dropshot (which is my “if they won’t eat anything else” option typically), it’s not the most fun way to fish but I’ll be putting some of those little mushroom shaped heads in my tackle bag now. I caught on 3 consecutive casts in the exact same spot on the same bait one of the days - a super cool achievement to unlock.

Also got on the first jig bite of the summer up at Hodges. Was getting skunked all morning while my brother was catching on underspin and finesse worm. Tied on a black jig and immediately got bit by something that doubled over my 894C JWR (if you’ve fisher one, that rod is a broomstick) and pulled the boat around. Eventually my 14lb test gave up. Not a lot of headshake so I’m gonna tell myself it was a big catfish so I don’t obsess about losing a giant bass for the next 6 months lol. Re tied and landed a 2lb bass on the next cast. Two casts later, another 2+. Ended up with 5 fish all in the 2-2.5 range in about 20 minutes, and once that bite stopped we headed home.

We have two more weekends of fishing left before the brother heads home. Hopefully we haven’t seen the best of it yet! Tight lines y’all!

Lots of bass action @CorsoEnthusiast to say the least!.
Those are great pics that capture the fun of catching lots of bass with your brother.
It is safe to say the the action will continue for both of you the next 2 weeks. After
that, we will look forward to seeing your bass fishing adventures and pics here on SDFish.
(and of course on the texts you send to my phone)
Thanks for sharing and tight lines always! :-)
