What it’s all about.

Some of you guys have known me and my family for a while. We ALL fish. Well, we’ve been teaching my youngest (Isabella) how to use a proper spinning setup for the last year. She’s 6yrs mind you. She’s now become sufficient enough to cast, reel on her own. Just the basic worm set up. Mostly just directing her to blind cast while she’s on the boat with us to get practice.

Well, yesterday was her day. Total cast to catch on her own (minus the net job by my son). Her very first catch wound up being a fairly decent one.

I’m sure fellow parents can understand the stoke and the feeling that overwhelmed me and the wife. Little Izzy was literally shaking from the experience.

Thanks for reading and tight lines.

Ps-random pic of my dog ranger because he’s awesome.

That is awesome Mike. The thrill and excitement Isabella must have got catching that bass and she had a heck of great father as a teacher. She will remember that moment for years to come. I remember my father taking me fishing and your post brought back lots of sentimental memories. Thank you for sharing with us and you guys no doubt must be proud parents. Please don’t let her come over to fish Lake Murray ha ha. :-)
Tight lines buddy….,,actually tight lines to everyone in the Nute family.

Look on her face is like, no big deal...
Sure she was stoked!
Would imagine there has been plenty of hook & hand overs.
Time for a baitcaster, heavier drop shot weight makes things easy.

We're Nute's. She's seen her fair share of lunkers come over the rails.

Momma and I were stoked to see her hook up and actually reel it in. Before, it was just like you said, hand-over either with a cast or a catch. This time it was all this little shit-birds show. She casted, let it drop, then bendo.

FOR THE RECORD:
ROD: DIAWA "SHOCK" 5'0" (RATED MAX TO 1/8 OZ)
REEL: DIAWA "SHOCK" 1000
LINE: 4LB IZOR (we still had it on from our last trout trip)
BAIT: 6" robo on 1/0 EWG with a 1/16 bullet.
Just goes to show.....anyone can catch at any time. Bottom line is to learn, and if possible, have fun.

I remember the first time I taught my son how to flyfish. I took him down to the San Joaquin and he ended up catching 25 rainbows his first day..I don't know if I was more excited or if he was! I had to convince him it wouldn't always be that way! The following year, I took him to the inlet at Rock Creek lake during a thunderstorm and we caught and released over 100 bows on streamers in 3 hours..I could no longer convince him that it wouldn't always be that way! Fun times!!
