Cabo Fishing Report – 1 Sailfish Released, 1 Wahoo
September 29, 2026 – Whale's Head, Cabo San Lucas
Team Australia found an impressive combination of sailfish and wahoo on a five-hour family charter aboard the 43' Riviera Blue Sky with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing and Charters.
Jeremy and Jodie were visiting from Australia with their sons Jackson, age 10, and Toby, age 12. They were staying at Esperanza, Auberge Collection, and headed out for a morning of Cabo fishing that required surprisingly little running time before finding quality fish.
Cabo Charter Fishing Report Finds Fish Two Miles Off Whale's Head
Boat: 43' Riviera Blue Sky | Guests: 4 | Charter: 5 Hours
Departure: 7:00 AM | Return: 12:00 PM | Team: Australia
Sailfish: 1 Released | Wahoo: 1 | Species: 2
Adults: 2 | Kids: Jackson 10, Toby 12 | Location: Whale's Head
Distance Offshore: ~2 Miles | Billfish Release: 100%
The standout statistic was the location.
Both encounters developed approximately two miles off Whale's Head. For a five-hour charter—especially one with two younger anglers aboard—that meant less time running and more time actually fishing.
Cabo Fishing Charter Produces Two Very Different Fish
The sailfish supplied the aerial side of the morning.
Once hooked, sailfish can accelerate rapidly, change direction and use the surface to their advantage. Jeremy's family got the complete billfish experience before the sailfish was brought alongside and successfully released.
Then came the wahoo.
Few Cabo game fish deliver a first run quite like a wahoo. Their long, streamlined bodies are built for speed, and a strike can turn into a screaming reel almost instantly.
Catching both species on one short trip created an unusual contrast: one spectacular billfish encounter followed by one of the fastest predators in the Pacific.
Cabo Charter Fish Story Becomes a Team Australia Family Day
For Jeremy and Jodie, the trip was also about getting Jackson and Toby onto the water.
The 43' Riviera gave the four-person family plenty of space, while productive water close to Whale's Head kept the morning moving.
By noon, Team Australia had experienced five hours on the water, two quality pelagic species, a successful sailfish release and a wahoo—all without needing a long offshore run.
That's a pretty efficient Cabo morning.
