San Veeeeee 5/14

Rented a boat at San V today and a fellow SDFisher joined me for the morning. Some froggy looking water but no bites on either the frog or the buzzbait. Water is pea green soup from the grass scum - not just the surface, it’s throughout the water column in places.

Plastics were the goods again. Nothing over 1.5lbs, and a couple of them were so small I had to text @VinnyBass and ask him if @Mcfish left one of his dinks behind on the last trip! (I kid, I kid).

Fun morning and a beautiful day today. Most of the action happened before 8am, but we had some spread out catches after that. Lots and lots of little fry hiding up in the brush and scum. Also nice running into @Pourboy on the way back!

Is the water in San V always that green during warmer months?

It's normally a spring problem..might last longer this year with all the nutrients washed into the lakes this winter. The water in summer and fall can get quite clear actually!

Algae in the water is pretty noticeable year round but when the water heats up it blooms and creates a 1-3 foot deep blanket on the surface

The scum from that algae on the surface in the backs of some of the coves looks really froggy but at least yesterday they were not chasing topwater at all. Threw the frog and the buzzbait but didn’t get any bites. I almost can’t remember what it’s like catching fish on a Baitcasting rig since all my catches from end of March to now have been on finesse stuff lol
