5/9-Couple of Firsts at Murray

Post by VinnyBass »

A couple recent trips to Murray resulted in a handful of small bass(McFish would be proud
as I gave in and used drop-shot) and a couple of nicer fish on reaction baits.
Anyway, I just wanted to share a few firsts of the year with you as today's trip produced my
first topwater bass of the year. Saw a swirl on the surface and on my second cast a healthy
3lb'er slammed my Sammy which was exciting.
Always fun to see @Dannicus who was as usual putting on a bass fishing clinic with his BFS gear. Nice job buddy!
Then while tossing an underspin with a keitech trailer in deeper water, what at first I thought
was a very healthy bass, turned out to be a huge catfish. It was a heck of a fight and what
seemed like a half hour(probably only 10 minutes) it was in the boat.

Just a few pics......

Probably about eight years ago… I caught a smaller catfish on an underspin casting towards the end of the boat dock as I have caught bass there in the past. I was really surprised of how high up in the water that fish was. Always a little bit disappointing catching a catfish when you are bass fishing….but boy do they sure put up a good fight, especially the one I caught this morning.

Wow Vinny, what a great day. You were hitting them above and below. Did you get a weight on the cat?

What was crazy is I just wanted to try to lift it up for a picture and the dang thing was pretty heavy and I was just guessing around 12 pounds. It might’ve been 15 to 18 or? The scale was hard to see while I was trying to hold him up, and of course, if it was a bass, I would’ve paid a lot more attention to the weight…..but it was a fat cat and gave one heck of a fight.

A six inch worm is usually the smallest worm I throw. That way, you could see how small that bass in the pic was..ha ha When you bite the head off your 4 inch Robo worm and make it 2 inches…it makes the bass look bigger. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. :-)

Correct me if I’m wrong but that cat was way bigger than 16-18! But then I have a problem with what’s 6 inches too 😂

That’s a nice cat! Caught a few of those on cranks at El Cap. Great fight but kind of disappointing after a minute or so when you realize it’s not a huge bass on the end of your line

It was fun watching you fight that thing! You da man as always. I caught a couple of fours this week and later that same day I finally tied into a 6.5 pound bass too! The bigger fish seem to be hanging around more up shallow which is great for me in a tube.

Still waiting for that invite out on your boat to learn how to fish metal lol!

Awesome job Vinny.

That last pic looks like it’s from the
Spring of 1972.
Was that a drummer stool?

Bob loves that seat. You will get a good belly laugh when you see a pic of my seat. It works great. Function over style with stuff I have so didn’t have to buy…
