El Cap 4/23/23

Post by CorsoEnthusiast »

Fun little trip to El Cap this morning. Night and day from last weekend were I managed 2 fish in 2 days.
Mostly worm fish, with an underspin bonus. Tight to or in cover was the key for me. Managed a mission to get one of my catches out of a bush that involved me keeping pressure on the fish for 5 or 6 minutes while my buddy used the net to try to bend branches out of the way. Eventually he came out and I got him in the boat. He was hooked so good he wasn’t coming off without breaking off (Owner Haymaker hooks… check the hookset in the pics. Best f’n worm hook around). Anyway, super fun day. I finished with 5 for 7.5 or so, not too shabby for a morning’s work 8-)

Nice job buddy. It’s always fun to go back to the lake where it was tough and have a nice rebound. Those are some nice fish….. what a difference a week makes eh? Thank you for sharing your fun day with us. Like I told you…it’s going to be a great summer. Tight lines always. :-)

One other note: my struggles experimenting with braid were well documented on the old board lol. I finally broke down and gave it another try after I had a respool done at a local shop, they put the line on my reel completely twisted and I had the nightmare of all nightmare line Management days. That was the last straw with straight FC on spinning gear for me. I am running 19# Sunline Defier D Braid (it sinks like FC so great for bottom contact presentations) to an 8# FC leader. After having the double uni knot fail me in a bunch of consecutive trips I decided to try the Albright special for my line splice and my experience has been excellent since. Survived a 5-6 minute battle with a fish who was deep and tangled in a bush where I had to keep constant pressure on the fish. So, happy to report I’ve made the B2L thing work out very well. Still trying to learn the FG, and the SC knot isn’t great with lighter FC line; the Albright seems to be a good compromise - much stronger for me than the double uni and much easier to tie than the FG.

Nice report! The RP knot works really well too, takes a little practice but it's good and nice and thin. Works with light line or heavy if you modify the number of wraps. As long as you find a connection you like and have confidence in, it's Saul Goodman :)
