Kicking off 2024. 1/6 at the V

Post by CorsoEnthusiast »

With it being 2024 now, I thought back to how tough the bite was a year ago and how between the rain and the colder temps it felt like winter was never going to end. In 2023 I had one small fish (and one big one that broke off) in January and then not a sniff till mid March.

This year, with my brother in town we decided to kick the year off with our buddy Andre Casey out at San V.

The bite is definitely a grind right now. The bait is TINY, like nickel sized silversides that look like glitter in the water. We found a few schooling fish pushing tiny bait up but they had no interest in our offerings. Even downsized Junior jerkbaits and small underspins, we watched them swim up close enough to take a look and turn right around on the active target.

So, the worm bite was it. We deadsticked dropshot and neko in 10-15’ and ended up with 9 for the day with the biggest being a little over 2.5 pounds. Bite is definitely getting tougher out there, the calm before it pops off in the springtime again - but still a lot of fun to be had!

Tight lines all!

Nice way to kick off the New Year! Cold weather fishing, but bet catching those bass made you guys forget about the weather.
Look like a fun time for you and your bro.
Tight lines and thanks for sharing. :-)
