Turkey Day in the desert

Took a little trip out East to the land of the Canals today for an afternoon session.

Had a blast! When it’s good out there, it’s just so much fun.

Managed 10 or so largemouth and a couple smallmouth, including my first 2+ (don’t laugh, I’d never caught a Smallie until a few months ago lol) and new Smallie PB. I caught him on a small Megabass crankbait on a BFS rod at the end of a long cast and in current the fight was long and a lot of fun.

Bait wise it was Megabass day (which is pretty much every day for me, let’s be honest  ) Ito Vision 110 and 110+1 Jrs and Super Z cranks were the juice today!

A few pics:

Eating turkey on Thanksgiving is nice but taking a nice long drive out east and catching bass on that day seems to be a heck
of lot more fun! Looks like you are really enjoying that light gear and it is really paying off. Thanks for sharing your adventure
with us. I immediately thought after seeing your post.....dang, I wish I caught some bass today. :-)
Tight lines always buddy

Not even really a long drive from where I’m at in east county. Little over and hour from the time I leave my driveway till I have a line in the water usually :)

Part 2 today. All small ones except for one tank. Initially I thought the fish was a Smallie based on its’ shape and size of its’ mouth but it has a lateral line and markings like a Largie? Also has a connected back dorsal fin like a spotted bass, although I’ve never heard of Spots being caught out there before so who knows? I’ll let you guys decide.

This is the fish in question. These pictures are all of the same fish.

Always enjoy your reports and the last smallie I caught was in Pennsylvania while on vacation years ago so I’m not an expert on them. That is a nice bass on your pics above. Looks like you’re having a lot of fun fishing away from the city.
Thanks for sharing and tight lines always buddy. :-)
