El Cap 3-29 Report
Note to self…DON’T STAY IN A PLACE THEY’RE NOT BITING!! We started out on a crisp and cold day along the stretch I’ve been hitting and catching for over a year. And why not? Dave got us started as usual with his magic mini jerkbaits and had me down 3-0 before I decided to join in. I swear he wills the fish to bite that lure. I threw the proverbial sink at ‘em with spinnerblades, deep diver cranks, jig n craw, the new Yamatanuki, and even reapers with only a dink to show for it. With about an hour to go I thought we should flip sides and hit the steeper rockier east side of the North End arm. Well dangit that’s where they’d been hiding. For me on reapers anyway. We also heard from a couple of guys we passed that they had that same result once they flipped sides and they were throwing small purple worms. We had 8, or 4 apiece. Off the water at 11:30 and back in time to work a half day.
PS Nothing on the Yamatanuki today but I’m not giving up. Its just too fun to say Yamatanuki lol. Might take a Barrett day to learn the bite and technique.

Always a lot of fun to fish together. I think they were suspending, confused by the drop in water temp. We saw some fish holding mid range on the finder, but they weren't cooperating. It was a chilly 59F when we got there and only got to 62F when we were leaving.

Did work cooperate CorsoEnthusiast? I’m curious if there was an afternoon bite. There was a better bite with the smaller males in the trees around rocks as we were leaving and wonder if it sustained. Can’t imagine being out there today and maybe tomorrow too :-/CorsoEnthusiast wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 3:05 pm Nice work! I didn’t end up making it out yesteday sadly. Was out at the canals this morning where it was sunny and dry for a few hours. On shore, getting up that hill at Cap when it’s muddy is not fun, I wouldn’t wanna be down there today honestly.JWall wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 11:31 amDid work cooperate CorsoEnthusiast? Re: El Cap 3-29 Report
Tonight, the fish were out deeper. Seems the storm/cold front made them retreat from the shallows. Little warming trend mid week so hopefully back on course this weekend. Just a couple dropshot fish tonight, one about 8 1/2” and one about 14”. Definitely not the bite I was on last week. Water level is up 2-3’ from the weekend of storms.

Also - there’s a pair of bald eagles nesting in the trees just east of the dam. My last trip prior to today we heard a loud “CRACK” and we looked back to see an Eagle flying with branches in his talons, they were building their nest. Today one of them was circling the area looking for floaters.

Thanks for the report! I know that feeling of sticking it out too long without reward. Great job for finding them and "Don't Fear The Reaper". I love those. Cheers and see you out there soon!

Re: El Cap 3-29 Report
Similar tonight to last night. Picked up one little 10” male about 5:15pm and tacked on a 3 pounder on my last cast of the day at 6:55.
