Barrett opener

Post by 619bassin »

Got to the lake at midnight and already 8 cars in front of me. The launch at pigs was smooth do to the high water. Parking was limited, don’t go pass the bathroom cause there’s no room to back up.
To the fishing, the lake is unrecognizable, water level looks full, the island towards Hauser isn’t there anymore. Went down Hauser, slow on top water, only a handful of blow ups on frog, missed one. Managed to find a spinner bait bite once daylight came, chatter bait worked too. Jerk bait was the best for me, ended up @40. Left around noon, can’t wait till it warms up.
Water temp 65-67
Air temp 62-65

Thanks. It wasn’t wide open like last year. Didn’t see any shad spawn. All were clones, biggest was 3lb

Thanks for the report, any on the typical black and blue jigs. Were they up in the shallows or still deep.

Thanks so much for the report. It is always exciting to fish our favorite brand new lake! I'm ready for Fishmas Day! Would you suggest to try and park at Pigs or drive to the dock?

If the water stays up, deep up in hauser canyon can get insane when it’s hot. You gotta push your boat over a sand bar usually then you get into the creek.

Nice! But how do you leave opener at noon. I’m staying unless the bite sucks.

John (hey that’s #metoo!) I came here to say the same thing. Only a Barrett angler could get an opening day spot and bounce at noon after a measly 40-spot! Maybe Wednesday is lawn day?!?! 🤷‍♂️ crazy to me. More than once I’ve “needed” that patrol boat to swoop me up in my tube at almost dark
