3/21-Lake Poway Exploratory trip

Post by VinnyBass »

Took off to Lake Poway mostly on an exploratory mission and to get a few hours of fishing in from shore. I had not been up to Lake
Poway for a very long time and figured I would go take a look. I did expect a few trout fishermen but never expected so many of
them on a Thursday morning. It was pretty crazy and there was supposed to be a trout plant and I guess the truck broke down
and it never made it and there were lots of unhappy trout fishermen as they announced it over the loud speaker.
I wandered around and ended up at JumpOff Point and tossed a variety of swimbaits there. I later switched to large
plastic lizards and a few large plastic worms. I was amazed how many people were at the lake fishing and didn't want to crowd
other fishermen so I pretty much just stayed in that area. I only had one bite and landed a bass on a plastic worm which made
me feel a little better.
I had a nice time talking to one of the locals who shared pics of some very nice bass he has caught over the years so there are
some big ones in there.
Anyway...I wonder how many people are up there fishing on a weekend? I guess I will never find out....ha ha

I had fun throwing a variety of swimbaits off that point…. even though I had no takers. I resorted to a 8” ribbon tail worm for the skunk breaker. It made the drive home a little more fun. :-)

Yeah, I heard about that 14 pounder and with all those trout being stocked I imagine there’s a lot of big bass in there. That water is pretty darn clear so I bet many of those bass are pretty smart.
