San V 2/15 Awesome day

Post by Moose »

Finally some shallow fish!!!

About 10min into my day my Spot Lock quit working on me so I called an audible and decided to just go shallow and run shorelines. Turned out to be the right move. Seems like these few warm days we’ve had pushed some fish shallow. Found quite a few shallow fish all around the lake. The Senko was the weapon of choice for those fish and later the dropshot but all of my fish came from less 20ft, with the majority in less than 10ft.

Ended the day with 15 overall. Best 5 went 12.43. Last cast of the day I busted off a real nice fish on the dropshot. Took drag as soon as I set the hook. The fish came straight up and jumped so I figured I was in good shape because it was out of the bushes, I must have had a frayed spot in my leader because a couple seconds after it jumped, my line just popped. Trying not to big eye it, I would say it was 5 1/2lbs or so. Would have been a perfect way to cap a good day.

I knew it! I was out there on Saturday, fished deep mostly but was curious about the shallow bite. Tied on a senko and first cast, BOOM. A 2lber that but in 6 seconds of it being in the water. In that cove we saw a ton of active fish swimming in 15-10 feet. But they were being very finicky. I knew that this warm streak would push em shallow! Awesome!

I’m curious to see what Monday brings with the storm that is supposed to come in. We’ll see if it drives them back deep again.

What a great day out there. They are moving into shallower water at El Cap too. At Murray they are still hanging out in 15-20 feet. Go figure.

The pics are deceiving. With the dropshot I am using 10lb braid with about an 8-10ft leader of 10lb fluorocarbon. I have used 8lb leader at times but seem to get just as many bites with 10lb.
