Happy new year bass anglers!
Spent the last weekend of 2023 out at El Cap. On Saturday it just felt like even though the shore bite has been really tough recently, the rain and being 3 days post full moon made me feel like there was a chance to pick up some quality bites.
That hunch paid off. We didn’t get a ton of bites but we found our quality. I landed a 4-02 and brother caught a 3-01 in about 3 hours of fishing. My yearly PB came in the same overcast/rainy conditions back in September, and the same spot in the moon cycle.
Sunday the rain was gone and with it so was the quality. Just little fish and little bites. 10 degrees colder and no rain, it’s amazing how much conditions can change just overnight and the bite with it.
Pretty sure all the fish we caught both days were on plastics, the usual. Dragged a football jig around out as deep as I could cast to, hoping to find big momma looking for one last big meal of the year but it was not to be. Talking to some guys at the dock at day’s end it sounds like small fish were the thing all over the lake.
Here’s to more catches and more BIG catches in 2024! 2023 from March really until the end of the year was pretty damn good for me. Excited to take what I learned in 23 and catch some fatties in 24.
Tight lines and a great fishing year in 2024 to all!
