Had to Ask - SD County Golf Course Bass

Post by sawheeler52 »

I hope this is not inappropriate for this general forum.
Feel free to PM me with any response if not suited for here.
So...
Entered my 70s a couple years ago.
No boat, no tube, no kayak, shore bound.
A largemouth fisherman.
Fish alone more often than not.
Escondido resident.
Have walked the shorelines of several county reservoirs for decades.
Can't do that anymore. Unable to easily traverse the most-often hilly terrains.
So I figure a golf course with water hazards would be my next avenue for satisfying my fishing jones.
I can't quit yet.
Any ideas out there.
Thanks,
Stephen

Santee Lakes is as easy to fish as golf courses. The fishing can be good at times for sure there. Much more fishing pressure than golf course ponds=)

When you say no tube, you mean you're not willing to go there?

Fisheromen,
Just meant don't have one and likely can't make the purchase.
Thanks for the reply.

KillinTime,
Thanks for the lead.
I've started to scope it on the web and can see your point re: accessibility.
Will make a run down from North County.
Additionally, thanks for supporting we senior fishing crazies.
Gettin' tougher each year.

Youre not going to get a pass, let it slide due to age at the golf coarse ponds....
You will get kicked out, by the grounds keepers, sited by sheriff ...
Thats why we call it "ninja bassin"......

Slater,
Your critique is recognized and appreciated, thanks.
However:
1. I can ninja with the best of them. Done it for a long while back east as a young man. Got my black hoodie.
2. I don't plan on being there during any course open hours.
3. Back when I could get up really early, I've encountered grounds keepers in the AM several times. They didn't care. They simply had a job to do to get the course ready for the day. Wished I had better command of the Spanish language.
4. Getting kicked out...won't be the first time in my life. With this, I have little to no problem.
5. Not knowing your age, as a septuagenarian, I offer we simply don't care any more. In my slanted view, I don't need a "pass."
6. And lastly, (as I Seinfeld fan, Uncle Leo getting busted for shoplifting in a book store), I've got my senility response ready to go if ever seriously confronted.
Looking forward to posting some pictures.
Happy New Year.

Take a red headlamp to enhance your ninja-ness. Make sure to tie your PF Flyers on tight, just in case you have to run!

At least in LA County, there are a dozen or so City Park lakes that have great shoreline access, including cement paths that are rarely hilly. Most offer free parking as well. If you fish a specific one long enough, you'll be able to develop a nice pattern.

I'm sure San Diego has a bunch of accessible ponds with bass in 'em.

PF Flyers.
I remember them.
I only got Keds when a little person.
These days it's only Jordan High Top Basketball shoes for me. I am a true disciple of this foot ware.
Tie tight...this is what makes Jordans one with yourself.
Run? I can leap fences with these babies.
Like the red lamp reference. Will investigate.

Just start with your closest Golf Course. Walk in after 11pm. Try it out. Some ponds have Bass some not so much. Generally if there are Bass in there, the bite is pretty good. Some have a few bigger fish, some a lot of smaller fish. Get out before first light. Alternatively you can ask permission. Amazingly, I have got permission at lots of Courses over the years. In the 60s, I learned about these Ponds while sharing stories in the Tackle Shop. Still a great place for local info. We didn’t have Google Earth then, some aerial photos and Thomas Bros. helped locate these Ponds. I have never had one problem fishing GC Ponds. Others have. I think a lot has to do with your attitude. Mostly, if caught in a bad situation, just leave. Don’t argue, fight, leave trash. Ruins it for the rest of us.

Like I said in some earlier comment..."I don't care."
Though I know this is too much information...A spanking...I'm all in.
Though potentially delusional, from a crazed old fisherman, it's good trouble.
From my short time on this forum, I get that Vinny rules for SD bass fishing.
Vinny,
Am I nuts?

Exactly,
Been practicing it for some years now.
I used to take advantage of being a young, white, tall, used to be good looking male. Served me well.
Now I have a whole 'nother edge.
Thanks for searching me the sitcom clip.

Vinny,

I don't rule anything....I do feel a tiny bit superior to my pet turtle and 2 frogs....(mostly because they rely on me to feed them)ha ha
While I did some crazy things when I was younger, I was always too afraid to get caught fishing illegally. My buddy got busted at Lake Murray many decades ago….anyway…I sent you a PM.

There was/is a local course that at times has had some epic fishing. Because of alot of pressure, they did a sporadic sprinkler cycle throughout the night on the shoreline. Made it difficult to fish. One night my buddy got blasted right in the groin point blank by a huge field sprinkler. Straight out of a cartoon. Hilarious but he was not feeling good. Ninja fishing is definitely getting more difficult these days with technology.

Points taken. Thanks for adding to my planning.
Need waders, groin cup and hooded rain jacket.
Maybe goggles.
I'm comin'.
I do not intend to be denied; though I see a fair amount of prep work ahead of any fishing.
Your buddy did well. Took one for the team. Kudos to any die hard.
Felt alone I was the only one who would do whatever necessary to find some accessible fresh water in SoCal.
Any chance you might PM me with the golf course you reference?
I am 100% catch and release.
Happy New Year,
Stephen

Man, if you don’t intend to be denied. Swing for the fences for sloane. It is federal trespassing now and properly marked so you can’t get out of it in court. Rumor has it, place is epic.

Also, there are legal requirements for posting on properties. Most trespassing issues can be thrown out in court.

If anything, just claim asylum

Camo,
From a progressive liberal, that asylum line is nothing short of freakin' funny in a very good way.
You should try some comedy open mics.
I thought it was a great punchline.
Still laughing.
