9/4-9/5: two evenings at my favorite BoW

Post by CorsoEnthusiast »

Made trips out to my favorite body of water the last two evenings. Weather was amazing. Wind was howling but it had the fish fired up.

Monday I started a little earlier than usual, got there around 2pm. There was a whole family with screaming kids in my usual spot so I decided to cast around at the south end of the lake by the boat dock. Took me about 15 minutes to catch one about 11” long about 3 feet wide of the dock. Seemed like everyplace I went there was a stack of 11-13” fish sitting up pretty shallow willing to feast on 3-4” dropshot baits.

When I went to the usual spot, the family was packing up and leaving and was talking about being frustrated for not getting any bites… I held my tongue but I could’ve easily told the guy that letting his kids Wade and splash in the water while constantly screaming at the top of their lungs was probably not gonna help their cause. As they were packing, I made a bad cast I burned back in, and on the next cast I got bit and caught a fish as the family was leaving. The 11-13” trend continued on and I stopped counting after 10 fish. Kept going till about 6pm when things finally died down. Didn’t get a sniff on any moving baits Monday night.

Tuesday I left home after work and got to the lake by 4:30ish. Had to grind for the first hour and finally sometime after 5:30 I landed my first fish, up pretty shallow. Started throwing out to deeper water, 15’ or so with a couple different presentations and was able to get bit on both of them, including my first free rig fish in awhile on a favorite JDM soft plastic. Nothing over 14” but all the fish I hooked today were chunks.

As the sun went down, got some help from the clouds and light conditions were low for the last 30 minutes. I tied on a black topwater and started fan casting off the end of a point. Made a nice long cast straight off the end, fish busted and missed it, then came back for it. Was a nice fish, 3+ from the looks of it and fought like he was twice that size. Took me into the brushpiles and broke me off.

All in all, a lot of fun. A pile of fish in both sessions, with better quality fish - mostly in girth, today.

Sounds awesome! Where were you fishing, or is it a secret?

Not a secret at all, I’ve called it out by name in previous reports but it’s the lake at the end of El Monte ;)
