Fuego!

Got to fish San V yesterday morning with SDFish member Oh Da Shiz off his boat.

San V is just en fuego right now. Mostly a finesse plastic bite but they were chomping. Find the shade, find the mud, find the fish. Definitely the best local bite going that isn’t on the downlow.

We ended up with ~20 fish on the day, starting at first light and fishing till 1pm or so.

San V is definitely the most consistent bite this spring and summer! If you don't like fishing trees and brush down to 40+', you might pass on the V now..it can be a challenge to pull the better fish out of the jungle!

San V is definitely the most consistent bite this spring and summer! If you don't like fishing trees and brush down to 40+', you might pass on the V now..it can be a challenge to pull the better fish out of the jungle!

Oddly enough almost all my catches the last two weekends were in less than 10’ of water. The one that came from 25’ ate a fluke style bait high in the water column, came a long way to get it. Even after it warmed they were up in the mud line. Most of my last two trips out there it’s been weightless stuff and most of the time the bait never hits the bottom. The consistent theme is the trees lol. Wherever they’re biting in the water column the brush and rock is the common theme. Luckily these fish don’t seem to be line shy. I’ve been able to use a 12-14# FC leader without feeling like I was missing out on bites. 19# braid to a 12# leader has been the sweet spot on spinning gear.

I figure if they’ll eat a Texas rig or a jig on 16-20# FC, a 12# leader shouldn’t be a bite stopper.
