Keep our Lakes Open

Post by VinnyBass »

Hey guys, @Everydog has been busting his butt to help save our fishing venues for a long time.
He has always gone out of his way doing anything he can possibly do and we should all acknowledge him for his great efforts.
Anyway, this is a critical time that instead of just laying back, we all need to step in and at least submit this online petition
to Supervisor Anderson to "Keep our Lakes and Reservoirs open."

@Everydog posted the link below in a comment in the "The City of San Diego is at it again" in General Fishing
Because of its importance, I decided to post the link again on this separate post.

If you care at all and enjoy fishing the San Diego City lakes, this is your time to let the city know.
It is very easy to submit the petition below and thank you in advance for taking action on this important matter.

to go to the link so they can submit this online petition to help Keep out Lakes Open.
Thank you again!

To be honest. I'm not doing much for City Lakes/Rural City of San Diego Lakes anymore except share contacts and a few ideas with a few new people, like to follow things up with Anderson since he made the initiative in 2021 to "blow the lakes wide open". It was never going to be that, but he did put out an initiative. The lakes are a problem. Any cuts are cuts on top of cuts and that will get swept under the rug possibly. Next time, what will it be, cuts on top of cuts on top of cuts and more fees?

Not sure what my future actions and impacts on Loveland will be, or what anyone else's will be either, but I haven't been able to quit that one yet.

The city and San Diego County Water Authority overspent on water infrastructure and incorrectly predicted high water use for future years while they overspent. It is easy to say cuts have to come from the lakes because that's where a lot of overspending(water infrastructure) happened and the city folks have to pay for it in water bills.

Good news for the lakes. The city has found funds for the lakes, Joel Anderson’s office sent out emails today.
There were 750 people from the 4 million in the county that contacted Joel Anderson’s office about the lakes closure.
We can do better. 750 is not enough .
Put’em in the cooler!!!!

Anderson beat Vaus by around 300 votes. It was us that pushed him over the top. Who knows if, as the incumbent, he feels he needs us now?
He can do better not only because he got the election with our votes, but because he said he wants to keep his campaign promise to "blow the lakes wide open".
Good to see that energy from the fishing community was good. This relatively small fix by Supervisor Anderson was probably easy peasy once his help was solicited for the $59K City of San Diego budget problem.

Yes I applaud Supervisor Anderson and all the fisherman who took the time to sign the petition. Maybe.......just maybe he might consider chiming in on the one day a month lake closure issue? That was just such a stupid decision the City made that caught us all by surprise. Any ideas how we can start that movement?

He tried to deal with the one-day-a-week, closures Tommy, But it was like $2700 per lake day. Greedy City.

The thing that I question.....that actually came from a City worker......is that the staff is always at the lakes( in the contract) so why turn down revenue that is so desperately needed to run the lakes? I think the County is the answer to all these problems that the City just does not care about. The Public Utilities Dept just wants to sell water and not deal with these issue's. If you question people that work in the Public Utilities Dept that make these decisions .....many of them have NEVER visited either of the 9 lakes they manage!!

The city accepted, or was about to accept the $2700 per lake day for 6 years for the on day per month closures. But when Supervisor Anderson understood what you were saying, Tommy, That the lake people are already there and we pay high fees already ( at the time they were just increased), He wasn't comfortable getting full board of Supervisor approval. Also, other lake users, like Miramar and Murray could do their share for parking and cleanup and other things but they pay nothing because they constitute a lot of votes probably.
