San Vicente May 6
I'm new to the whole bass fishing thing so this was my first time on the water trying to catch some largies.
Thanks to @VinnyBass who was kind enough to provide me with some detailed advice I felt like I knew what I was doing. Not a lot of action though but we've caught a few between myself and the junior, most around 2lb, all on ned and dropshot.
Will be back soon.

Be careful taking advice from Vinnybass...before you know it, you'll be catching 6lbers!

These are even better IMO. Been fishing these in the trees at San Vee and Cap all spring and have lost a lot less of them.

Re: San Vicente May 6
I'd love me some 6lbers but I hear that San V isn't particularly famous for those. Most people there catch 1-2lb fish from what I've gathered.
Gonna have to look at some other lakes, maybe El Capitan or Murray?

McFish, your weights must have gps. As (not) often as I DS, those weights and all others actively target brush and rocks

On my last 2 trips to San V, I haven't lost a d/s weight to the rocks or bushes..but I have lost fish to them! There definitely is an art to finessing your weights out of those hazards! I've had more than 50 years of practicing the art of weight removal at San V..I know each rock personally..lolStinkyPinky23 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 2:54 pm McFish, your weights must have gps. Back in the 80s, I went to San V to catch 7-10lbers! Lakes change..stocking less trout has made a difference in fish size. I don't think the City messing with water levels has helped the lakes either! I'm not really sure how catch and release has effected the local lakes.

Re: San Vicente May 6
I've heard different opinions about catch and release fishery. Some people say that it actually depletes the lakes of bigger fish because the smaller ones are more aggressive and eat everything so the bigger fish starve. Supposedly it's best to keep 1-2lb bass (about 12-18 inches) and release the bigger ones.Mcfish wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 11:09 amBack in the 80s, I went to San V to catch 7-10lbers!
