Where do you buy fish and seafood in San Diego?

What are some good places to buy fresh seafood, fish, oysters etc.? I usually go to H-Mart but maybe there are some alternative options out there.
Also is it safe to eat freshly caught tuna sashimi or it's best to freeze it first?

Flash freezing fish (tuna, escolar and moonfish) with dry ice

So last week I finally made it out to the Tuna Harbor Dockside Market and picked up some Ahi, Albacore, Opah and Escolar fillets. I love sashimi and poke but I know it's not recommended to eat raw fish because there is a risk of food poisoning or contracting a parasite. Basically it has to be froze...

Re: Flash freezing fish (tuna and escolar)

- Slowly added some pieces of dry ice. It's best to make the pieces the size of a golf ball or so and add them slow so the liquid doesn't boil over the top Dry ice is very cold and will burn your skin almost instantly so handle with care! - IMG_2904.PNG - I used a laser thermometer to measure the te...

Re: Flash freezing fish (tuna and escolar)

Once the temperature dropped below 30-35F I added few more pieces of dry ice and started putting the fish in I kept monitoring the temperature so when it went above 30F I just added some more ice - IMG_2908.PNG - I left the fish sitting there for about 10-15 minutes - IMG_2909.PNG - Once they are f...

Re: Flash freezing fish (tuna and escolar)

When you're ready to eat your fish, just put the packets into a room temperature water for about an hour and it's ready to go!
The sashimi came out excellent, as fresh as it gets.

P.S. Don't try this at home 8-)

San Vicente May 6

I'm new to the whole bass fishing thing so this was my first time on the water trying to catch some largies. Thanks to VinnyBass who was kind enough to provide me with some detailed advice I felt like I knew what I was doing. Not a lot of action though but we've caught a few between myself and the j...

The smile on your son’s pic tells it all.
Tight lines always and thanks for sharing. :-)
@VinnyBass we both enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you again and tight lines!

Re: San Vicente May 6

Be careful taking advice from Vinnybass...before you know it, you'll be catching 6lbers! I'd love me some 6lbers but I hear that San V isn't particularly famous for those. Most people there catch 1-2lb fish from what I've gathered. Gonna have to look at some other lakes, maybe El Capitan or Murray?

Re: San V 5-27

@Oh Da Shiz that's awesome!
My son and I were there yesterday and got completely skunked. We were throwing all kinds of topwater then switched to dropshot and then to ned rigs and nothing. Not a single bite in 3.5 hours. It sucked but at least we've had some good father-son time on the water :)

Re: San V 5-27

So great to see you back on the water again. Father and son time fishing together always is special. I can still think of all the times my father took me fishing and great memories we shared together. Anyway best wishes and tight lines always. :-) He started liking it too, I'm surprised! :D Too bad...

Re: Peaceful Kayak Crappie Fishing Day

Got home, made five casts from my local beach, and caught two halibut and a calico bass. Great catch blackcloud9 ! Would you mind sharing some of that expertise? Every time I go to my local beach (Torrey Pines) I end up empty handed. I almost feel like it's a curse of some sort :eyes_on_fire:

Re: San Vicente question

I was trying to rent a kayak for the day at San V maybe this weekend, but only with the sole purpose of fishing, are allowed to fish on their rental yaks? I'm not sure if you can fish on their kayaks but I just wanted to say that San Vicente is a fairly large reservoir and there are many ski boats ...
