Wed 8th kayak report

First in line, got on the water with Dave @4:30, it was cold and foggy. Headed to Hauser, didn’t find fish till sunrise, fog and cold had something to do with it. Started to get them on popper, few blow up on frog, the crawler seemed to get the quality fish. Much slower than last week, ended up @20+ ...

Re: Wed 8th kayak report

Good job in testing conditions! I have thrown an old jitterbug out there that your Crawler reminds me of. I can’t believe it doesn’t get slaughtered.

Re: Wed 8th kayak report

Try a bigger jitterbug or the pompadour crawler. The bigger fish seems to crush it better.

Lake Henshaw Bass + Carp on the Fly (video)

Made the drive out to Henshaw yesterday to take advantage of the beautiful spring weather. Forecast for Warner Springs area said "A nice day for outdoor activities" so I had a feeling it was going to be good day! Arrived right when they opened at 8:00am and by the time I got my permits, pr...

Re: 5/9-Couple of Firsts at Murray

Wow Vinny, what a great day. You were hitting them above and below. Did you get a weight on the cat? What was crazy is I just wanted to try to lift it up for a picture and the dang thing was pretty heavy and I was just guessing around 12 pounds. It might’ve been 15 to 18 or? The scale was hard to s...

Late May 5th Report

Got to fish the lake with my son and a friend on the only day it's rained in months! Cold wet windy conditions all the way back in Hauser. Thank God for frogg toggs! My sons bud won the jackpot with a nice fish just over 4 lbs! His PB! My boy topped out with a 3.2 lb-er. Overall tough, off day for t...

Storm Fishing Again?! Barrett 5/5

Lake Barrett Fishing: Opening Week 2024 https://youtu.be/iQPORHC7NTk Hey all I know that this is a very late report, but I’ve had a lot going on lately. I was very happy to make it out on May 5 with a friend and make it out on the lake. With mist coming down, we got launched from pigs with no proble...

Re: How's the Pine Creek arm?

Yea very interested to hear how it goes! Pine was fine, but hear Hauser was too. We got on some schools busting bait up against rocky steeps and did most of our damage on reapers and minnows on small ball jigs. Biggest 3.3lbs. But also got some with senkos outside the first brush line. 44 for both ...

Re: Barrett Report May 11

We actually waited about half an hour for better light in that fog. Otherwise we may have met earlier and not in a good way. Borderbasser’s gnar descriptor is appropriate. As always, fun meeting up on the water and comparing notes!

Cap float 5/12

Took the tubes out to Cap this morning. Mother’s Day had the lake pretty empty early! Only a couple of boat trailers and my brother and I in the tubes. Immediately started throwing my favorite bladed bait around shallow brush. Got the most action where there was brush in the back of cuts and coves. ...

May 12

Made my first visit to Barrett on Sunday May 12. Got to the kayak launch area at 4:30. The fog on the lake made visibility poor in the dark but it was getting lighter and lighter so it wasn't long until I didn't need my flashlight. Headed to Pine Creek to start the day, and per the recommendation of...

Good to be back to the V.

It's been several weeks since I've done a Monday on San V and it felt good to be back! The lake is higher than it's ever been and everything I've learned there in the last 60 years is pretty much out the window! Fortunately, the fish made it easy on me by hanging out in the brush in shallow water. I...

Lake Hodges: The Pattern Is Changing!

https://youtu.be/VSXS-VjaDkM?si=WeYIIFA89hrpOusc Hey, all I hope fishing is treating you well. I headed out to Hodges twice this week each for just a few hours in the morning. Both days when I got there, the shad were busting up on shore with the birds having a frenzy right next to the Bass. The bi...

Re: Good to be back to the V.

Good job. I was there a little over a week ago and had a nice Topwater session. Spooks, whoppers and frogs. Lost a DD bulldogged me deep after inhaling the spook - heart break. Fun times ahead

FLOATay Sat 5/18

Some Otay morning action in the tubes today. Brother and I have effectively starting calling it “FLOATay” because it’s such a float tube friendly lake. Lots of good spots to launch and fish there. Every trip I’ve taken down there I’ve encountered quite a few tubers as well. How was the fishing? We l...

Sunday May 19th

I’m sure some of the regulars had typical May Barrett days but we sure didn’t. The girl and I teamed up for 25 bass to 3lbs but it was a pick at best with no topwater or boilers to throw at. A far cry from our 44 last Saturday in a short morning session. My guess is the wind and cold, wet foggy cond...

5/19/24 Report

Gate opened just after 04:00. Loaded the boat and headed to the back of Hausers, trying to see how far it goes back, wow it just keeps going, opens up in some spots, look great back there . However I only got 2 on topwater and 1 on a Keitech .Fished my way out and didn't really do much of anything. ...

Hodges May 19th

Quick morning session on the float tube at Hodges on Sunday. Ended up with five on the drop shot close to shore. Three of them in the same spot within minutes of each other which was nice after two hours of no bites. I’m guessing they were on spawning beds there, also indicated from their tails bein...
