9/14- Return to the SD River
After picking up some dinks yesterday at Murray, I decided to try somewhere different this morning. With a slightly cooler weather forecast, I headed down to the San Diego river. Last time I was there was in early June and with no launch or permit fees...I figured what the heck. Not much was going o...

Re: Fish ID?
Looks like a Nile Tilapia. I think foulhook is correct. I have them in one of my greenhouses and they have a lot of variation but some very much look like that fish. I said the same thing but said blue tilapia so did one of my buddies that studies fish, caught it at lake Jennings and don’t feel lik...

Re: Barrett report September 16th
Nice to meet you at the launch Early release. Not sure what time that was, but getting there late put me somewhere between a pattern and a grind. Got 6 or 7 bass and 3 big bluegills working around main lake points with the jerk bait and three better but not big fish, on the A-rig in about 15 feet of...

Re: Lake Poway?
Thanks to both of you for the advice. I gave it a shot today ($3 why not), but it was not epic. Got a late start, there by 10 am which may have led to what followed. I walked about half way around the lake casting a variety of soft plastics and even tried the frog a bit with only one strike on the s...

Re: Barrett report September 20th
Similar to your report Dave, I did get 4.7lb on a jig and 3.2 on flukes. Ended with 7 bass, cooler weather definitely effect the bite.

Re: Barrett report September 20th
I was there. We did pretty good. 50 fish between two kayakers.
Lots of solid 3 lb fish. Biggest for me would be a 5 lber followed by a 4.
A Rig and glide bait.
The bite has picked up for me since last time I was there.

End of a tough year for Sutherland!
20230922_062845.jpg 20230922_074842.jpg They're putting Sutherland out of it's misery this Sunday, shutting it down for the winter. It's been a long strange trip out there this year! Good days were almost nonexistent. Just when you thought it was changing for the better..it wasn't! We were hoping t...

Re: New Loveland Updates
Loveland update; This is potentially really good news. Update From the Meeting with Andrew Hayes for Senator Jones' office on Friday. “Round table” meeting with Sweetwater Authority on or about October 18th in Alpine. (Apparently not an Alpine Community Planning Group meeting) This is to discuss acc...

Re: Barrett report September 23rd
Hi John, I think my techniques are what might be winding down. I'm going to try some spybaits and sinking/suspending jerkbaits. The fish are there, they just want something different. I tried a dual rigged fluke yesterday for some time and I think I'll do that again, but not the 4 inch flukes, smal...

September 24…Always a Puzzle to Solve
Took us till 9am ish to crack our code. Plastics bumping on the bottom in 10-15ft just outside the algae line yielded our first 8 bass. Had plans so trolled out of Hauser and got a bluegill(??) on a Rattletrap. WTF those gilleys are mean at Barrett!

Desert adventures 9/24
With my favorite local body of water holding a two day tourney for the weekend I decided to change up the routine and forego my normal Sunday AM trip in favor of hitting the desert canals. Day started off great with my first Smallie catch ever on a crankbait. Got two dink largies on the same crank i...

Re: What combo has a more forgiving drag, smooth fight?
For LMB fishing, I'm using straight braid a lot more and can't see my line choice evolution turning back. For the concerns about riping hooks/ baits away from fish, which combo, spinning or baitcasting would be considered to compensate more for this worry? I am more accurate with a bait caster, so ...

Small Murray reaction bass
Just a short update that after some recent trips to Murray.....there are still plenty of small bass reacting to reaction baits. While it is always nice to catch a healthy bass, it has still been fun trying different baits to catch these little buggers. At least they are hungry.....ha ha. :-) Just a ...

Barrett Sept 24
Fished Barrett yesterday for the first time in 5 or 6 years. Physical issues kept me away. Made the trip out there yesterday with my brother. He lives nearby with kids and work its difficult to get together to just hang out. Plan was to go spend the day and take what we could get. Got a later start ...

Barrett Finally Wed 27
Got on the water @6, it was cold 45 degrees, felt like opening day. Noticed the water was down again, headed to Hauser and picked up 3 on popper early, 1 on Ned rig. Then went back to where they were busting, seems like everyone was there, boaters, tubers and kayakers. We didn’t have to chase, they ...

9/28 Back to SD River
After seeing a full moon last night I knew it may be tough, but decided to go fishing anyway. Did not feel like going to Murray again, so I headed out to the SD river. I worked a couple jerk baits and a crank bait for a while and no takers and then to a spinnerbait and still nothing. The surface was...
