Barrett report Sunday 7/30

I’ve been stalking these forums for a while now, waiting for our chance to get on the lake. First time at Barrett was a Sunday, and it did not disappoint! What a beautiful gem of a lake it is, and such good fishing opportunities. We are beginner bass fishermen — two dads, and two boys 7 and 9 years ...

Re: Most fun and unusual baits for bass

Two weeks ago I was at Barrett and saw a dead rabbit in the water. I realized why the big rat lures work right there. But for me, consistently this crazy crawler is the strangest thing I use ( and variants ) and every week I get some fish to claim it. thumbnail_IMG_9709.jpg I’ve tried using that ex...

Re: Slow and Hot 8-30

Thanks for the report John. I was wondering how the extreme heat, full moon, and tropical storm were going to impact things. Hopefully their lack of appetite means they will be extra hungry this Saturday! Because our crew doesn’t have many tricks up our sleeves :)

A bit different today! Sept 2

The lake seemed a bit different today! First, my 7 and 9 year old sons fished the pants off of me and my buddy. Largely because they realized fairly quickly that the Crappie and Blue Gill were big and biting, while the bass fishing was more slow going (for us) than in recent visits. They landed 18 b...

Best. Day. Ever. (Aka Sept 17 report)

Sunday was the best day of bass fishing we’ve ever had. Maybe our best day of fishing period! Me and my two boys (7 & 9) got on the water by 5:30am and fished for the next 13 hours. And we would have kept fishing if they let us! They air and water were cooler than in weeks past and the lake seem...

Re: Best. Day. Ever. (Aka Sept 17 report)

Best. Report. Ever. Lol. Big thanks for your detailed catch info. Headed out Sunday and then closing day and this really helps. Had an A-Rig already in my plan but am elevating a couple of options and rethinking others. Hey John, good to hear you’re getting out there again a couple times before the...

Quick (and late) report from 9/23

Me and my boys were lucky enough to get back out there Saturday for one last go of the season. We did pretty good by our standards, but the fishing was much different (harder) than last weekend when they were practically jumping into the boat. We were on the water by 6:30, fished for 12 hours, and l...

Re: Quick (and late) report from 9/23

I do like the lake’s encouragement to get you to try lots of new approaches! Best of luck this Saturday. Looking forward to hearing what the last day was like!

Re: Barrett Finally Wed 27

Glad you had a fun and successful day out there! Kastmaster… hmm… these bass might be going through a trout identity crisis! Maybe we can keep the lake open for a few more weeks for bass identity therapy? It’s important! They clearly need our help.

Alternative to Lake Hodges?

I’m seeing that Lake Hodges is closed from November to January, and maybe this is a stupid question, but does that mean it is closed in every sense? No shore fishing, hiking, float tubing etc? If it’s completely closed, I’m hoping for a few recommendations. Me and a buddy want to try our new float t...

Re: Alternative to Lake Hodges?

Hey McFish, we went for the late afternoon/ evening session and didn’t get any action at all. I threw crankbaits, swimbaits, and Senkos. I don’t know if it was me, my float tube, or the fish, but I did see that another poster caught 6. Maybe he was out there in the morning or I don’t know how to fis...

Re: Lake Recommendations for Sat 11/18?

Like, if you were desperate to catch a freshwater fish — any fish — but you despise the crowds and vibe of fishing for stunned freshly stocked fish, where would you go this time of year? Been on a bit of a dry spell recently! My boys did catch these guys at Lake Jennings last weekend though. We’re h...

Re: opening day????

I had the same issue with trying to sort out the dates. Even though I was prepared to grab ANY date, my panic about not getting anything at all did not help in the slightest. After I started to accept my defeat, I refreshed and noticed that a “calendar” tab popped up — I think TM did this midstream....

Did anyone lose a tackle box?

I was the last one off the water on Saturday and ran across a tackle tray. Anyone missing it?
