Lake Murray 12/13

Things were a grind today at the Murr.  I fished for 6 hours, and located some large schools in 40+ feet of water.  They were suspended 7-10 feet from the bottom.  I dropped everything in my box on their heads with nary a nibble.   Finally I switched over to ultralight gear and managed to bring in 3...

Re: Go to bait

Billy Senko says 4-inch Yama Senko BB #305 and or 4-inch Daiwa Yamamoto Neko Fat Worm BB #305-weightless Texas rigged 3/0 Gamakatsu O'Shaughnessy Bend Offset Worm Hook Bronze. Barrett 26 fish in one spot. That day they would not bite anything else and that was not the only time for that scenario. Ba...

Closing out January in style

Made a trip on Sunday morning to my favorite local body of water. Was pleased to see the water level a couple feet higher on account of recent rain. Hopefully some more will bring that water level back up. It was 3 days after the full moon and we had some favorable eastbound wind and a few warmer da...

Lake Hodges Opening Week 2024

Lake Hodges Opener 2024 https://youtu.be/F35SFcPAXTQ Hey all, it’s that time of the year again! I am always excited to go to Lake Hodges, and this year was no exception. I had made a point to make sure that I got out there on opening day and battled the rain. It was challenging out there for sure, i...

San V 2/15 Awesome day

Finally some shallow fish!!! About 10min into my day my Spot Lock quit working on me so I called an audible and decided to just go shallow and run shorelines. Turned out to be the right move. Seems like these few warm days we’ve had pushed some fish shallow. Found quite a few shallow fish all around...

Basically all the bass fishermen that I have talked to have struggled so far. Crappie has been on for lots. The lake has come up several feet very quickly and Hodges is notoriously challenging in February.

Has anyone been having tough days at Hodges lately? Basically all the bass fishermen that I have talked to have struggled so far. Crappie has been on for lots. The lake has come up several feet very quickly and Hodges is notoriously challenging in February. Yep, Hodges is famous for it's cold muddy...

Re: Lake Hodges Opening Week 2024

Crappie jigs caught both a 6.5 lb and a 7+ lb bass last weekend on Saturday.

I just got 1 little one this week and a better one last week on the UL 500 size spinning reel fishing the main channels with jigs, in my kayak.

Re: How do ya'll do it? (Camp/sleep strategies)

We used to leave LA at around 12 or so. We'd stop at the Denny's near SDSU (which at 2ish am is a frickin human circus!) and get a bite. We'd be in line by 3:30, and usually had 10 to 20 or so vehicles in front of us, which was manageable. Now? We leave around 9, get to Denny's around 11:30 (which i...

Re: How do ya'll do it? (Camp/sleep strategies)

We usually arrive close to the gate opening times, we used to get there earlier but I hate to say it, while there have not been any weird “The Hills Have Eyes” issues just too eerie for us now lol.

Drive down from Torrance so better for me to get there earlier and catch a few hours sleep in the truck.

Re: How do ya'll do it? (Camp/sleep strategies)

I do it by living 10 min away. That camp site bendopolo mentioned would work if you wanted to camp the night before. There’s also a huge dirt parking lot by Japatul valley fire station off Lyons valley rd. that is a trail head to pine creek/horsethief canyon that you wouldn’t be bothered if you slep...

Re: How do ya'll do it? (Camp/sleep strategies)

The nice thing about the Campground is proper restrooms and access to electricity for a very small extra cost. Also they are a local small business, ran by Fisher-people.
