Halibut

Really solid Halibut fishing in the bay the last couple of weeks from skiffs, kayak, and shore. Using sardines, smelt, and double rig with underspin and white gulp swimbaits.

Fiesta Island

Been fishing fiesta island on the way home from work the past month for the magic hour around sunset and and catching a few bass on lucky crafts every outing while trying to dodge the weeds, and while not many, I get 3-4 every night with most of them are nice ones in the 12-15 range(the top one was ...

Fat Bluegill, San Vicente ... again? May 21

It's officially a pattern at this point! :D Really fun panfishing again today and upped gear to 6 lb. braid with 6 lb. leader, found the fish in the same areas. Targeting around 15 to 18 feet deep on nightcrawlers at the outer edge of the brushlines, similar to Friday's catch but added a fat 2.2 lb ...

Rocky Shorelines - Calico Bass May 22

Walked down to a favorite beach spot to fish a weighted weedless swimbait (shown) along the sand/rock shoreline here, with much smaller surf today. The recent south swells have migrated tons of sand north on my beach, and have unburied the local acres of eel grass - which is all dead and drifting no...

SD Bay report 5/28

Difficult to get bait, but my dad and I did manage to catch some in the morning and afternoon. The bite was really good yesterday with plenty of bites throughout the day. I broke off on a few fish, one of which felt like a decent ray or guitarfish. I also missed a few bites and pulled the hook on a ...

They're back

gmho2bjn.png
1st one for this season at MB, 21.5" on 2 small sc's, near high tide this am. So far, the crabs have been either very small or golf balls. Good fun also to run into Jusbigguns on the sand.

June 1st— San Vee trip

Can’t beat the gray weather, I arrived to a lite crowd. The fish were hanging in the same areas.
Largest one 2.15 lbs, a lot of very colorful specimens.

Hodges Crappies

So, As everyone knows Hodges opened last week. I've been starving for a crappie bite all year. I had to go. Plus the kids have been asking to get out as well. Thought it was the perfect opportunity for both. Got there in line before it opened to ensure we got a rental. The ramp is now the parking lo...

Can you believe it? San Vicente Jun 5th

Hard to believe that today was my first time out this year. After going my whole life with excellent health, things have gone from bad to since I turned eighty. I really wanted to get out, actually I needed to get out. I got my boat out of mothballs and found that my trolling motor wasn't working. I...

Bay 6-5

Got a hall pass to go fishing and decided I needed to hit the big bay. Launched from shelter at 930 am and went straight across to north island. Fished several depths and found a few fish in about 15-20 feet. I threw mostly swim baits with the occasional drop shot. I made a move to tidelands and pic...

San V Monday chow time...

20230605_092419.jpg June gloom..just what the fish ordered! Water temp 70-73, air temp not that nice! A stiff breeze blowing most of the day. I got on a solid pattern right from the start, working a dropshot in 15'-20', off steeper banks with rocks! I brought 23 fish to the boat, not counting a few...

6/8 Murray

My buddy Joe joined me again this morning in hopes of another topwater bonanza like we had in May(boating 21 bass). Only this time with little to no topwater action at all. As the water glassed off, I thought to myself......is this a lake or an oil painting? ha ha. I mean there was a random bass her...

Re: El Cap 6/9

Cool. I did the afternoon shift, been a month, surprised it's down 10', but heard water still coming in at north trees. Only got two, one j/b and on boot leg frog. Lost an absolute monster in 1' of water, on the boot tail fluke. She exploded on it, and I couldn’t feel anything and kept reeling but s...
