Lake Murray April 5, 2023

Murray bass .jpg The cold weather and water level fluctuating up and down has not helped the bass fishing at Lake Murray. It has been a tough bite with smaller fish as a reward after a lot of hard work recently. Good news as the action should be picking up now that we may be in for some warmer weat...

Re: Lake Murray April 5, 2023

At least somebody is catching bass. I've been to my home lake 4 times and was unfortunately skunked each time. The water level keeps rising and I think the bass can't figure out where to start spawning. Good to see you catching a few Vinny. Hope to have a report to post soon.

Re: Lake Murray April 5, 2023

That was a struggle to pull 5 fish yesterday...lake looks great though! The parking situation is a real challenge, not sure how you would launch a boat now with the ramp completely underwater! They are pumping a lot of water down to San V now, we'll see what that does to the lake in the long run? It...

Catching up: San V, El Cap and Murray

Figured I’d update on what’s being going on. Some words to corroborate with all the pictures I posted in the catch thread. As I mentioned there, February and the first couple weekends of March were brutal for me. I lost that big fish at Cap and didn’t get another bite till the first weekend of March...

Murray 4/12-Brrrrrrrr!

Hit Murray with my kayak today as a cold front set in. The cool air blowing across the lake make me think like I was fishing on a cold February day...ha ha I did not have much success as I only caught a couple dinks on a small spoon and a small bass on an underspin and that was it. I had one other b...

A spring day on San V...not!

I got to the lake at 6:15, under dark, cold, cloudy, drizzly skies..which pretty much remained that way for the next 6 hours!! The lake seems about a month behind with the unseasonably cold spring we're having! I ended the day with 14 fish, mostly small males which I hadn't planned on fishing for! N...

Murray: Kayak or Boat=Same results

Hit Murray in my kayak yesterday morning(4/19) and then again this morning(4/20) only this time in my boat. There has to be some casting advantage especially in a boat being higher above the water(not related to 4/20 high..ha ha) but there really wasn't any. Anyway, basically the same results...some...

Re: Murray: Kayak or Boat=Same results

That 6lb thing became a thing a couple years ago, when you basically put a 6lber in the boat or yak on every trip, or close to it! I believe you also stuck a 9lb+ that year! Just imagine if you actually knew what you were doing.....hahahahahahaha!

Otay 4/22, San V 4/23

I launched my kayak at Otay for the evening bite. It was slow fishing, however managed to a catch few dinks. Water is the highest I’ve ever seen it at. Most fish caught shallow and tight to structure. Water temps on the colder side. Launched at San V early morning. They had a night tournament the pr...

The Far One 4/27

Hit the road at 6:30am and made the 1hr 20 minute trek from Oceanside to the most remote lake in San Diego County. Got my boat all dried up the night before but arrived to find out my cooler had tilted over and spilled all the melted ice into the boat 😩 Spent 20 mins getting that all dried up and lu...

Back to Monday Fun day!

It took San V an extra month to get going, but it's on now! What a difference 2 weeks makes...got there at sunrise 2 weeks ago, 6 boats..today at sunrise, more like 30! First cast, lost a 6lber in a bush..bad omen, nope! I got into a solid pattern and didn't move more than 100' for the next 5 hours....

San V Monday chow time...

20230605_092419.jpg June gloom..just what the fish ordered! Water temp 70-73, air temp not that nice! A stiff breeze blowing most of the day. I got on a solid pattern right from the start, working a dropshot in 15'-20', off steeper banks with rocks! I brought 23 fish to the boat, not counting a few...

Re: First Time BFS today at Murray

Yep. I am casting a small paddletail on a 1/16 jighead about 50 feet (without wind) I use 5lb. nanobraid to a 6lb. flourocarbon leader. I'm gonna order another Ark BFS reel but they sold out and are on backorder. Gonna pair it with a Dobyns sierra and 10lb. braid for a bass rig. I am loving BFS for ...
