Re: Clips or No Clips
IMHO, no clips. Fresh knots can be a blessing in disguise. If you need a loop for a lure to swim free like a jerk bait or top water, learn the rapala knot. Super quick. And you can even tie a double rapala knot for heavy stuff with lighter line. Never had the rapala knot fail. My pb 13lb bass was on...

Re: Clips or No Clips
No clips for the win this morning at Harbor Island. 3 Barracuda and 1 Mackerel within an hour. It pays off to be patient.

Re: 4/29 - El Cap
Also: water is down probably 2 feet from last Sunday. First time since they’ve had the valve open that I’ve noticed a drop. Feeder creeks are still flowing but since the rain has slowed down the level is starting to drop. Inconvenient time for that to happen when fish are pushed way up shallow spawn...

Gray day on the bay
Fished Tidelands this morning from the float tube. Got 31 spotted bay bass, 1 20" halibut and 1 sand bass. At least 1/3 of the spotties were in the 13-15" range. Best lures were a Missile Shockwave swimbait on a weedless standup jig head, a 5" grub on a 3/8 oz. ball head and a 4"...

Best way to land kayak halibut
Kayak fishing lends some challenges when landing Halibut compared to boat fishing. When in a boat, all you need to do is get the fish over the rail but in a kayak you need to keep the fish almost completely restrained until it's dead. If a Halibut goes apeshit on deck there's a great chance that it ...

San Veeeeee 5/14
Rented a boat at San V today and a fellow SDFisher joined me for the morning. Some froggy looking water but no bites on either the frog or the buzzbait. Water is pea green soup from the grass scum - not just the surface, it’s throughout the water column in places. Plastics were the goods again. Noth...

Re: How much of a workout is float tubing?
Water is warm now. Don't need waders or boots. Some people get sore hips or back some don't. My back was jacked.up for a year...hurt to hike or bike but didn't bother me in the tube. There are places on both bays with easy launches and very little tidal movement, so you can figure out whether your c...

Re: Otay
Been two weeks since I was there, was an interesting trip. Here's my report from back then... My God has a sense of humor, here's our latest interaction with Him, see what you think. Dr John, my friend and current backseat student, and I went fishing at Otay lake yesterday. It ended up being much to...

Re: Otay
I fished it yesterday (July 4), first time this year although it's in my neighborhood. It looks like there would be fish everywhere. I got a fluke fish in the first hour. Fished until about 10:30 and only got one other bite flippin' a worm. I'm guessing it was a bed fish because it bit below the hoo...

Re: Live Bait Rigs
For halibut, I would recommend a rig that gets the bait off the bottom more so they can see it from a longer distance, either a dropshot rig or a 3 way swivel rig. Dropshot for anchovies, 3 way swivel for mackerel and smelt. You could also use a dropper loop for the bait hook instead of a dropshot. ...

San V on top
If you're going to chase the breakers, you're going to need some patience(sorry Vinny)! I got on the water at 6:00, with a decent Santa Ana blowing. Since I was only going after topwater fish, that wasn't really helpful! About 8:00, the wind turned around to an onshore breeze and the fish started to...

Re: San diego river
@inthedeep2 is correct as they have been releasing water from El Cap and it has flooded many parts of the river. I posted in the Freshwater Bass section. https://www.sdfish.org/viewtopic.php?t=1180 on Oct. 24 about it and have not been back since. The water was high and very stained and I was lucky ...

Fall Fishing El Cap
https://youtu.be/qfPzJ9Q6qTY Hey guys it has been a couple of tough months for me for fishing. Got striped a couple of times at local lakes and even the bay! With fish seemingly hiding from me I just decided to head back to El Cap and try that out. It was a super beautiful day on the lake and only ...
