Re: Fall Fishing El Cap

Thanks Pourboy and will look for you on the big bay if you are there Sunday. Tides are really smoking and there should be a good bite.

PS yes I saw the ned fish. That was a beefer! On my boat those automatically become the 5 pounders that got away 😂😂

Turkey Day in the desert

Took a little trip out East to the land of the Canals today for an afternoon session. Had a blast! When it’s good out there, it’s just so much fun. Managed 10 or so largemouth and a couple smallmouth, including my first 2+ (don’t laugh, I’d never caught a Smallie until a few months ago lol) and new ...

Re: Turkey Day in the desert

Eating turkey on Thanksgiving is nice but taking a nice long drive out east and catching bass on that day seems to be a heck of lot more fun! Looks like you are really enjoying that light gear and it is really paying off. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I immediately thought after seeing ...

Otay Ultralight 11/25

Went ultralight fishing again at Otay. Caught a dozen or so small bass, but the highlight was seven large bluegill, all in the 2 to 2.5 pound range. Fish tacos here I come.

Lake Wohlford

Hit Wohlford on Saturday for a recon trip. My buddy Bryn called up saying he was stuck in Escondido and needed to catch a Bass. Not a lot of Daytime options right now for some epic style fishing so I found some info on Wohlford and ran down, picked up Bryn and hit the Lake. It was $72 for two fishin...

Advice plz!: Headin to The River

I bumped into a gentleman recently while fishing my go-to, (hike-to) San Diego Reservoir. He told me to go check out fishing around Blythe as he loved it there once the weather cools off. He grumbled off names that sounded like Aha quin, Waterwheel, and Rancho Not-so-Grande. If anyone has any knowle...

Re: Advice plz!: Headin to The River

I’ve got no Blythe knowledge (I’m sure there are many here who do), but you can find smallmouth in the imperial valley canals much closer to SD. Look for check gates and drops in any of the canals on Google earth and you are in good shape to find fish. Got my first Smallmouth out there a couple mont...

Re: Otay Ultralight 11/25

Very nice it sounds like you had tons of fun out there, THANK YOU for the report and sure you'll enjoy those tacos! I'm glad most people would rather fish for bass. I found schools of gills from my kayak in 20' off the main lake flats at El Cap on Saturday. Not big ones but fun size on light gear a...

Tide Swing Spotties 11-26

Thought a 7ft tide swing might have them on the chew and wasn’t disappointed. Got 11 feisty biters before the lack of water on our spots chilled the bite. Did move around some docks for 3 late ones but were off the water by 11. Small colorful curly tail plastics on underspins and a bronze Damiki bla...

Exactly. I was out in Missouri. And the best part is, bass aren’t pressured. Most are after crappie and walleye. Not many fish the “green carp”

11/27-Back to the SD River

Decided to take the cheaper fishing route(a recent new roof set me back $$,$$$$) so I headed down to the SD River for a morning session. The last time I was there it was really stained and flooded via the tons of water being released from El Capitan. This time the water had gone down to almost back ...

Man, that went from a float tube to the international space station. I’m going to have to stick to my hammy cramps so I can kick into the tules to hide when needed.

Re: El Cap 11.24

I think the City screwing with the water levels had a big influence on the fishing. San V probably was the most consistent fishing and had the most stable water levels. Sutherland and El Cap were really dependent on whether the City was messing with the water levels!
