Santee Lakes Bluegill Blossoming

Lately I have been visiting Santee Lakes and catching bass, but also watching the newly hatched bluegill grow from one inch to more than three inches. They always seem to be feeding on heavy concentrations of freshwater plankton and also on hatching bugs in the heat of the day. They are usually stay...

The Far One 4/27

Hit the road at 6:30am and made the 1hr 20 minute trek from Oceanside to the most remote lake in San Diego County. Got my boat all dried up the night before but arrived to find out my cooler had tilted over and spilled all the melted ice into the boat 😩 Spent 20 mins getting that all dried up and lu...

Dixon lake Bass report

Dixon Lake update on Bass. This fish had a few eager friends, but she was the most photogenic. I was just walking the shore pounding along with a #7 Rapala and they were very cooperative. I'd like to say that's a surfcasting rod and she was huge, but it's really about a 20" fish, which is still...

4/29 - El Cap

Took the Kayak down to El Cap this morning. With the water way up, I knew I had to be one of the first couple kayakers there or that now smaller dirt lot would be full and I’d have to drag my ‘yak across the parking lot. Apparently a big club tourney this morning, a bunch of people just drove in bef...

Cap on Fri.

Tried my luck there on Friday- Sunrise to sunset. Reports from other anglers- it was slow going! Fisheromen joined me for first half of the day and a different friend the second half. Paul and I only got two the first half, one each, and I got four more the second half. All topwater but one bedfish ...

Still tough out on Lake Donald and Kiefer..

I got to the lake at sunrise, expecting to see the regulars out on the water already...but no, I was alone. That tells you how tough the fishing is and the high water has made launching and parking a real challenge. I keep expecting the lake to go off every week, but it's still not happening! I floa...

Re: Still tough out on Lake Donald and Kiefer..

Good to see you out there yesterday morning.Sorry to hear you didn't catch a dozen bass at Sutherland. Good you found those 3. It's been very tough this year. I have been skunked 4 weekends in a row at Sutherland. The water level being so high, I think the fish are confused. Hopefully it will get b...

Re: Still tough out on Lake Donald and Kiefer..

That lake needs a few days with 85-90 degree weather to get those shad to spawn

Re: Cap on Fri.

Nice work! I didn’t see any surface activity yesterday at all early, at least in the front of the lake and back in Chocolate, aside from Carp. That moss is definitely a challenge right now, having to pick it off your baits every cast, and your weight gets covered in it and you can no longer feel the...

Re: Still tough out on Lake Donald and Kiefer..

It's a blessing getting sooooo much water in all our lakes, but it sure has put a damper on the bite overall. Strange, as the water temp isn't all that cold at most.

San V 4/30 report

Got to the lake early, almost empty, which was a big surprise to me. Paddled out and immediately got a treat over by the big water inlet. Of course that anchored me to that spot for another fruitless 45 minutes. But moved along the shoreline and out to the island and got many takers. All on dropshot...

Re: San see 5/1/23 monday

Those redears have a bad attitude! They will attack fish way bigger than themselves this time of year! We need the bigger bass to move up now!

May 2-Murray: Top of the Late Morning

Dang it!!! I have to tell you that I had a completed story ready to post and lost it by opening another window and not saving it as a draft. After screaming several "special" words showing my frustration...here is the post and a lot shorter than the original which is good as many of you kn...
