Crappie Time of Year

I Resized_20230514_064202.jpg t's been tough trying to catch those elusive Crappie this Spring. With the inconsistent weather and all of the lakes filling up its been a battle. Plus Mother Nature has been know to put the best laid plans of a fisherman to sleep. So I made the 9 hr trek up North to Cl...

Re: Hodges

I rode Hodges today around 10:45 and notice that the banner was being put up at the concession stand, so I asked the all important question about opening. The unofficial/official word on the street (parking lot) is May 31st, Hodges will be open for fishing! The launch ramp will not be open, so no pr...

5/16 Marvelous Morning at Murray

I have had some tough trips this year to Murray where I worked hard just to catch a couple bass(thank you for lowering, then raising the water, then lowering and then raising it a little etc, etc., etc.) Anyway...My last trip in the beginning of May showed a little sign of improvement. This morning ...

Sweets double hook up!

What a rush 🤣. But at least it’s a good sign maybe the bass will move in a bit shallower now. Most of my bass are still out deep that I’m catching from shore. Lots of these models starting to move in as well. I’ll go pound the shore at Murray, or Vicente tomorrow and press my luck. C0A18249-4342-432...

If you only got one..I'm convinced it's no bueno! A lot of lakes are dealing with some nasty algae blooms now! It's the price we may for having a wet winter, lots of nutrients washed into the lakes.

Re: How much of a workout is float tubing?

Water is warm now. Don't need waders or boots. Some people get sore hips or back some don't. My back was jacked.up for a year...hurt to hike or bike but didn't bother me in the tube. There are places on both bays with easy launches and very little tidal movement, so you can figure out whether your c...

San V...summer coming!

You can't tell by the cold, drizzly weather..but the fish told me today! I thought for some reason when I hit San V on Monday morning, that I could take up where I left off two Mondays ago..wrong, wrong, wrong! I started flipping senkos between the brush in 4'-6' of water and soon realized that the ...

Re: Anyone Ultralight fishing Bass in Barrett?

I have a 8' ultralight rod that I bought 20 years ago just for throwing baby sluggos, fin-s, and zoom tiny flukes at San V. The rod is more similar to my fly rods than a bass rod. When the fish are in the top of the water column, those baits can't be beat! I've landed fish up to 8lb on that combo, b...

El Cap Friday

Decent size Friday crowd on yet another cooler, breezier Late May day. WTH is the warmer weather? Anyway for the 3rd straight Cap trip, I caught a fish on my first cast. I can’t say that’s ever happened before. And then after thinking it will be WFO, it turns out to be anything but and just a slow p...

Re: best flouro on the market tests...

🤣 🤣 while I haven’t tried a lot of those on the tests, I have tried quite a few different flouros. For one, seaguar is actually Seagarbage. Abrazx should be renamed. Abrasion resistant?!?! Lmao try abrasion attractant. Line is straight trash and this only confirms what I’ve thought for 14 years. If ...

Re: Recommend tackle

I’ve never gone as far to use fluoro. Cats are not line shy at all. I don’t catfish as much as I used to but for soaking bait, I got into just a sliding egg sinker directly inline with the hook. Casts better than a swivel with leader. But even better if you aren’t worried about casting as far as you...

Re: Golden Bass

Bass have the ability to change their color to match the background, much like a chameleon. So bass caught in the weeds will have the classic green and black largemouth pattern and I have seen fish caught in the open water be light green and almost silvery. https://www.takemefishing.org/blog/februar...

Re: otay sucks bad!!!

Hard to believe this is the same lake as Spring 2018. The jerkbait bite was the most wideopen I have ever seen. The only hotter SD bass fishing that I have seen better, was poaching Barrett in the 80s. No joke, the back of Harveys Arm, it was wide open like tuna fishing. Shad were spawning and we we...

Re: Golden Bass

The markings/no markings usually comes from where the fish are, if they’re relating to cover or open water, and water clarity. Guarantee if you catch some schooling open water fish, they will have a bland pattern at best

Re: otay sucks bad!!!

Lol if you’re fishing “the outside edge” of the tullies, you’re wasting your time. You need to be fishing braid or 20lb flouro and getting your bait into spots you’re not certain you could land a fish if you were bit. Or, find the fish offshore that are chasing bait
