4-6-23 Point Loma Kelp

Headed out to the kelp around 1030am. Got there fairly quickly and hooked up on this rock fish. Moved around quite a bit with no more bites. Got my ass handed to me on the way in with the wind blowing directly against me and while still fighting the outgoing tide. It took me almost 4 brutal hours to...

April 8, 2023 Tidelands

I will kick of this forum with the 1st post. I had been fishing South San Diego Bay for the last few month, had the quantity but not the quality of spotties. Got 29 spotties, 1 mackerel, 1 corvina and 1 halibut (18") float tubing yesterday. The spotties were nice sized for a change, several in ...

Corvina

Great to see the site back up again, and that good triumphed over evil in this case (last dig I promise)! I hadn’t been posting much in the months leading up to the original forum’s untimely demise, but thought I’d post a quick report. Cold water has made the corvina fishing tough but some are still...

The beans are coming ;)

Caught three beans in last two days, all on the LC. Weirdest thing ever. Out of all the years of throwing the LC in the surf, Sunday was the first time I had ever caught a bean with it, and then it happened again three casts later! 1/4” smaller than the first one, which was 19.25”. Then, it happened...

Re: The beans are coming ;)

Nice! I definitely feel like those early season corbina are more opportunistic later in the season. I got one this year on a red perch fly and another one on a Texas rigged swimbait. I’ve caught a couple on LCs during grunion runs too. Not sure how they think they can fit one in those sucker mouths ...

South Bay Report April 10th

Hit the south bay yesterday. Only a 2.9 foot tidal swing, but the fish bit ok. I got 25 spotties. Quality was good with a number of almost 14 inchers. Caught most of the fish in 5-8 feet of water on 1/4 oz jigs with shad tail plastics. Got a couple of corvina and one halibut in the mix also. 2 weeks...

Re: The beans are coming ;)

I got one a few weeks ago on a red perch fly as well. Hooked in the gill plate so I let it go with out a picture or measurement. Caught right after this lunker.

IVOS last week

Hit the Valley for an even 43 last week on Friday. Mostly cats and carp with a bass or two thrown in. No idea if I can post pix or a link, some footage is up on my YouTube channel. Put the carp in my garden after peeling some meat for flathead bait.

Re: Where do you buy fish and seafood in San Diego?

Inregards to the sushi / sashimi....
Im sure alot of us have done it & immediately caught, sliced & eaten yellowtail & tuna on the boat...
Thats not the best practice, should always be frozen to kill-off any parasites / worms....
Freezing fish is what makes it sushi grade...

4/14 Reds and Reds

Great fishing on the DD for some taco eaters. Great time on the water, good time with friends. I was stressed to fish a straight forward rig as possible. I fished 80lb to 40lb with 16oz of lead, 3/0s, wished I fished 5/0s. Caught my 4 reds, my girl caught 4, and then I stopped fishing after another ...

San Felipe 4/2023

Don't know if I missed it or if this is new. But a Baja forum is cool, so guess I'll post a report of my recent trip to San Felipe on the northern tip of the Gulf of CA. Went for a family trip where family was the emphasis, I was able to sneak away for at least one high tide each day, but was restri...
