A couple weekends of local fishing with the bro..

Have been fishing a ton the last couple of weeks since my last update. My brother is in town from Toronto and we hadn’t fished together in 20+ years, so we are getting after it every chance we get. Most of our time has been spent on shore at my favorite local body of water. We made a visit to the Ca...

Re: Hodges was Hot (and the weather, too)

Hell yeah brother! The jig has been the juice up there for me too. Last weekend I pulled 5 in 20 minutes on a black jig.

Re: San V and friends...

Seems like the quality at the V is starting to get better! Nice work! There's alot of fry to feed on now! No sign of silversides or shad though. The fish definitely have fatter bellies now! Definitely saw some silverside activity up shallow early this morning. Quality theme kept going today. Lots o...

V is for victory!

..as in victory over a bunch of healthy, hard fighting fish. When my brother planned his trip down here the first thing I did was book a guided trip with my buddy Andre Casey. As the trip date approached, San V was the clear choice with numbers still showing up and quality of the fish getting better...

Re: This One is For VinnyBass

Nice work! I always expect I’m gonna lose a lot of worms and terminal tackle dropshotting at the V. The best plastics are almost all high salt which compromises durability. On a good day like yours I will easily burn through 2-3 bags of Roboworm

Fuego!

Got to fish San V yesterday morning with SDFish member Oh Da Shiz off his boat. San V is just en fuego right now. Mostly a finesse plastic bite but they were chomping. Find the shade, find the mud, find the fish. Definitely the best local bite going that isn’t on the downlow. We ended up with ~20 fi...

Re: Fuego!

San V is definitely the most consistent bite this spring and summer! If you don't like fishing trees and brush down to 40+', you might pass on the V now..it can be a challenge to pull the better fish out of the jungle! Oddly enough almost all my catches the last two weekends were in less than 10’ o...

Re: Any bass lakes or reservoirs with rental boating? :/

One caveat about San Vicente: if you’re not comfortable dealing with wake from ski boats, go on a Monday. They are out in force on the weekends and typically don’t have any consideration for anyone else on the water. It’s a miracle there isn’t an accident there every single weekend with those turkey...

Re: Any bass lakes or reservoirs with rental boating? :/

I hear Barret does only barbless hooks. All of the hooks I have are barbed. Is there a way to bypass or fix this without buying new ones? Also Lake Barret is very very expensive. I know you guys are talking about San Vicente as well, but is it as good or just as good as Barret? San V is a different...

Re: Tequila Baccarac & Zillion TW HD 7.3

I have this exact same combo and it’s a super versatile setup. Put braid on it’s great for bigger frogs. With FC or Mono, it’s a killer rod for big wakes and glide baits up to 4oz, big spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, topwater. Basically any treble or single hook reaction bait over 3/4oz will play well o...

Re: The BFs "Craze"

1/32??? I can't even imagine casting anything less than 1/8. When you cast such light baits which is more important for getting the furthest cast possible, the reel or the rod? Spinning & baitcaster gear IMO the reel. You want a lighter, shallower spool with less startup inertia to sling those ...

Still going..

The V is still going! Did a short session on 8/13 from open till about 9:30. Ended up with 9 total. Mostly smaller fish but managed to find two fish over 3lbs. As has been the trend lately for me there, shallow cover was the key. 398BA4A6-7CA9-4C33-8092-7758D026BD89.jpeg 25C73162-6F6C-4A9F-8993-FCBF...

9/4-9/5: two evenings at my favorite BoW

Made trips out to my favorite body of water the last two evenings. Weather was amazing. Wind was howling but it had the fish fired up. Monday I started a little earlier than usual, got there around 2pm. There was a whole family with screaming kids in my usual spot so I decided to cast around at the ...
