Re: El Capitan report March 15

Looked apocalyptic down there in the evening! That wind was insane. Caught almost everything out deeper tonight. Either the shallow fish have already moved on and the next wave hasn’t moved up yet, or the weather change has them retreating. Bro caught his new PB - about 18” long and pretty girthy. W...

We found her in like 25’ at the end of a rocky point! My bro landed her on his ultralight rig and a 6# leader to boot!

Re: Lake Murray 12.3 pound bass caught.

Andre is a good buddy of mine. Was stoked to see that fish caught off his boat. In the same spot my grandpa’s 1972 state record 17-14 was caught in too.

Re: Lake Murray 12.3 pound bass caught.

As Vinny can attest I fish Murray from my float tube an average of 4 days per week. I regularly pull in good numbers of bass, with the occasional scattered 6 pounder plus. The numbers of fishermen on the lake varies from negligible to quite a few on weekends. Lots of shore guys showing up recently....

Re: Spring fishing at the fave

Didn't take the float tube? Not yesterday. Bro and I were planning to take them out at Murray today but the weather had other ideas Yesterday we only had 3 hours to fish in the AM and wanted to save the tube debut for a day when we have a little more time. Weather forecast so far doesn’t look like ...

Yep, the backslide rigging is the way. I dunno if there’s a better bait for picking apart a piece of brush.

Re: Spring fishing at the fave

Just to add my 2 cents: Everyone has their way of rigging it, but this is the way I used to rig the IKA. I use a weedless wire hook IMG_1799.jpg IMG_1797.jpg and a nail weight in the back end. IMG_1801.jpg Ready for action IMG_1802.jpg I can definitely see the nail weight helping in heavy current w...

Re: Lake Hodges: Storm Fishing Plus An Interesting Story

Another great video and I knew your tube setup does everything, it’s even a floating wet bar!! Love the big catch story and how nice getting to relive that day again! So Hodges back in the day was maybe a red lake like Cap is a green lake etc. Like your jig with a hint of red with the pumpkin, I us...

Re: 3/28-S.D. River..why not?

Its creature city for me tomorrow at El Cap. Jig n craw, fat ika, and a new one, a Yamatanuki. Are you guys trying to make me go broke? Talking about some cool bait that I’m gonna have to probably order some on tackle warehouse now that you are talking about it………ha ha :-) You know I’m eternally a ...

Re: 3/28-S.D. River..why not?

Its creature city for me tomorrow at El Cap. Jig n craw, fat ika, and a new one, a Yamatanuki. What size Yamatanuki? The little 2.5” guys are great on a weedless Ned head and as a Jig trailer. The 3.5” size I think would fish terrific as a backglide like the Ika. I bought the 2.5’s dark green/amber...

Re: DIY Rod Tube holder advice needed

Version 1.0. 3 rods right now. Gonna tinker with it and see what else I wanna do with it. My original idea was the have that bar across the back connect to another 90degree elbow and then run a straight piece down into the water to mount a transducer on. Will probably start out simple like this and ...

Re: DIY Rod Tube holder advice needed

Added a horizontal bar on the right side to attach to the D rings. Seems like this is going to work and isn’t going to lean to one side or the other. Think I’m gonna let all the Rod turrets swivel. Cup holder on the front is going to have a magnetic dish mounted inside of it, place to keep baits and...

I haven’t been to D&K since probably the early 90s. Will have to take a Friday off work and make the drive up for a tube day in the next few weeks to check it out.

Re: El Cap 3-29 Report

Tonight, the fish were out deeper. Seems the storm/cold front made them retreat from the shallows. Little warming trend mid week so hopefully back on course this weekend. Just a couple dropshot fish tonight, one about 8 1/2” and one about 14”. Definitely not the bite I was on last week. Water level ...

Re: El Cap 3-29 Report

Also - there’s a pair of bald eagles nesting in the trees just east of the dam. My last trip prior to today we heard a loud “CRACK” and we looked back to see an Eagle flying with branches in his talons, they were building their nest. Today one of them was circling the area looking for floaters. 0821...
